Our vision: What make us unique

At IMIM we continuously invest in offering an innovative program in which we can combine the best of “engineering” and “management” for our students who are being trained to become future managers, entrepreneurs, and business people. Our double degree offer contributes to our strengths together with the mobility structure we provide to our students.  Moreover, the possibility to complete the final master’s thesis project in a company or academic organization opens various doors for our students for an enriching career development path.

Innovative program

The International Master in Industrial Management (IMIM) is a unique multi-site masters programme offered through a strategic partnership of leading universities in the area of industrial management.

This 16 months + Thesis programme is studied at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) for Semester 1, then Heriot-Watt University (HWU) Edinburgh for Semester 2, then your choice of Politecnico di Torino, Northwestern Polytechnical University of Xi’an, Tecnológico de Monterrey, or Heriot-Watt Dubai for Semester 3. Finally, Semester 4, the Master Thesis, can be completed  ‘anywhere in the world’ at a university with links to the IMIM Consortium or through an internship at other industrial or public organisations.

The international education of IMIM students is a valuable asset to be spent in global companies and makes it easier for our graduates to find a job in one of the 27 EU Member Countries, or outside Europe in companies linked with Europe. IMIM alumni are developing their careers in different functional roles, different industries and different geographical locations.

Welcome to IMIM!

Industrial management: Management + Engineering

IMIM aims to provide students from a scientific or engineering-based background with business skills relevant for pursuing managerial careers in internationally orientated manufacturing and service industries.

Following completion of this degree, you will be able to design and manage complex organisations and industrial endeavours, in particular those where technology plays a key role. You will be able to diagnose problematic situations in those organisations and then conceive, and put into practice, alternative solutions and processes of continuous improvement.

We have designed this degree to address the challenges of globalisation in an increasingly digital world. We’ve created a program structure that offers a coherent but also diverse set of pathways beginning with the principles of management in today’s world through to the value chain and the operations within it. In addition, you are able to specialise in one of three key fields of management – innovation in industry and services; technology and entrepreneurship; or the challenge of execution.

Another key feature of the program is its integrative teaching approach aimed at developing the ability of students to tackle managerial issues in an interdisciplinary manner. Moreover, the fourth semester offers an opportunity for an industry-related project work in close collaboration with companies, forming the basis for a master thesis to be submitted towards the end of the semester.

Double Degree

The program offers a highly specialized qualification with candidates receiving the Master of Science (MSc) in Industrial Management, from Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh, Scotland) and the International Master Degree in Industrial Management from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain).

In addition to these grades that will be awarded to all the IMIM students completing  the program successfully, the rest of the partner universities will award grades or official transcript certificates to the students attending third semester there that will be announced soon. Please stay tuned to get informed about that.

Mobility each semester

IMIM offers academic mobility with universities involved in the programme structure. These universities cover a wide geographic area including Spain, United Kingdom, United Arap Emirates, Italy, Malaysia and Mexico.

Flexible Master Thesis

The Master Thesis, can be studied ‘anywhere in the world’ at a university with links to the IMIM Consortium or other industrial or public organisations – it is organised for you as part of the programme and gives you the opportunity to put your learning into practice. It is a broad project that the IMIM consortium organizes in collaboration with universities, industrial and service companies and other organizations. There are two types of Master Thesis:

  • Thesis project performed in academic institutions (universities members of the consortium or other European academic institutions or from third countries having agreements with IMIM consortium)
  • Thesis project performed in companies or other organizations (foundations, public administrations)

ACCIONA, the new IMIM corporate partner, will offer to our students the chance to do internships while developing their Master Thesis during the final semester of the programme.

Career Opportunities

IMIM graduates will be well-suited for a range of managerial careers in areas such as production, logistics, marketing, purchasing and management control. Large consulting firms provide an alternative career path. In addition, the strong research-based profile of the programme opens opportunities for further studies towards the PhD level.

The international education of IMIM students is a valuable asset to be spent in global companies and makes it easier for students to find a job in one of the 25 EU Member Countries, or outside Europe in companies linked with Europe. However, for non-EU students some additional requirements may be needed and limitations to the possibility to work in Europe may exist, depending on the case. Additional information about employment in Europe for non-EU students can be found in the website of foreign affairs of each European country, and local embassies. IMIM graduates can take advantage of the career services offered by the partner universities.

For networking opportunities, connections and relationship building, IMIM graduates are strongly recommended to join the IMIM alumni networks.

IMIM alumni are developing their careers in different functional roles, different industries and different geographical locations.
